'Harvest Home' is a haphazard, esoteric and nostalgic look at the English pastoral traditional of the 'Harvest Home' ; traditionally a festival marking the end of the Harvest season.
Assembled in celebration of the iconography, objects and sayings related to the festivity of harvest times gone by including in no particular order-
The corn maiden (a figurative plaited straw ornament made from the last sheaf of corn cut at harvest time and kept until the following year to ensure a healthy harvest)
A cut out and collaged nod to church harvest displays
A traditional slipware harvest jug (this one inspired by one seen at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge)
The Harvest Home horse and cart, which would traditionally be decorated with garlands of flowers and ribbons to bring in the last cart load of wheat/corn
A bastardised version of a lovely Michael Cardew slipware harvest jug taking centre stage because of the wonderful motto
A God Speed The Plough mug and rhyme.
Decorative horse brasses
An Autumnal cornucopia featuring warty gourds and corn - ‘an ear of corn with 7 or 14 rows is especially lucky and a token of a good harvest’
A tiny bit of smocking stitch as I couldn’t fit in the whole smock...
