'The Herring Lassies’ is inspired by the itinerant and seasonal female fish gutters, who would travel the coastline of Britain following the ‘Silver Darlings’ (the herring) usually down from the East Coast of Scotland, via the Tyne and ending in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Featured; The silver darlings themselves, snippets of the songs the women sung while working, not quite in sight, but in mind are the wonderful quilted skirts of the North East fisher-women, a few (questionable) herring dishes of Marguerite Patten, a drawing of a london cry wood cut of a fish seller, herringbone pattern (so called as it emulates the pattern of the herring’s skeleton), a detail from the delicious Yarmouth Bloaters tin, and did anyone spot the red herring…(I couldn’t resist…)
